Derry City - 2013 UK City of Culture

In Summer 2010, Derry~Londonderry made history after winning its bid to be the first ever UK City of Culture in 2013.

The momentous win means that in 2013 Derry~Londonderry will play host to a year-long celebration of culture in the city, opening its doors to visitors from across the world.

Many elements of the programme will actually begin in 2012 and include the opening and closing ceremonies of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. In 2013, the city has been confirmed as the venue for the Turner Prize and will host the global music festival WOMAD.

Alongside these major cultural events will be an ongoing programme of smaller, community-driven events throughout the year as well as existing festivals and events including the city's annual Halloween Carnival (arguably the biggest in Europe), the Foyle Film Festival, Foyle Days and The City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival which attracts tens of thousands of visitors to the city annually.

Situated just 20 minutes from Derry-Londonderry, the Roe Park Resort is the ideal base for visiting the city during this momentous year as part of your visit to the North West and Northern Ireland coast.
