Belfast's Titanic Quarter
A little over an hour's drive from the Roe Park Resort in Limavady, the Titanic Quarter in Belfast will play host to the 2012 centenary celebrations of that most famous of ships.
The Titanic was designed and built in Belfast between 1909 and 1912 before setting sail on it's ill-fated maiden voyage. Hailed as ‘the new wonder of the world’, locals are only too happy to remind you of the fact that “she was fine when she left here”.
The former docklands area is now home to a major waterfront redevelopment project, twice the size of London’s Canary Wharf. There are ambitious plans including the development of an iconic visitor attraction with galleries telling the story of Northern Ireland’s maritime history and the Titanic. Already visitors can explore the recently restored areas of Titanic's Dock and Pump-House.
The Titanic Quarter is also home to the Odyssey complex, and Odyssey Arena, home to ice hockey team the Belfast Giants and a major concert and performance arena which regularly attracts a world-class lineup of artists including Rihanna, 50 Cent, Katy Perry and Irish favourites Westlife.
