NI Golfers encouraged to follow Rory’s lead and pick up their first silverware of the season
Following Rory McIlroy’s recent victory, amateur golfers throughout Northern Ireland are being encouraged to compete in Ireland’s largest amateur open series, and get their golf gloves on a trophy of their own.
The Golf Digest Volvo Open will be held for the first time at the Roe Park Resort, Limavady on Friday 3rd June. The tournament, which will be the first leg of the prestigious touring competition to be held in Northern Ireland this year, will move on to Portumna Golf Club in Co. Galway and then to Dundrum House Hotel Golf and Leisure Resort in Co. Tipperary later in the month.
Over 200 amateur golfers are expected to take part in the competition, which is taking place at the Roe Park Resort for the very first time.
Open to all golfers, including those without an official handicap, the open will offer over £5000 worth of prizes, including golf equipment and luxury golf breaks, as well as complimentary refreshments and goodie bags for all participants.
Winners on the day will be eligible to take part in the 2016 Golf Digest Volvo Grand Final, and compete for the Champions Cup later in the year - the biggest silver trophy in the history of Irish sport.
Terry Kelly, Golf and Spa Manager at Roe Park Resort commented, “We are delighted to be hosting the Golf Digest Volvo Open. We believe that to be a chosen venue for this renowned competition affirms the quality of the golf experience we offer our patrons.
“As well as the top quality golf equipment awarded to the winners and runners up of our main competition, our ‘nearest the pin’ and ‘longest drive’ challenges and raffle will also offer a range of great prizes.
“The Golf Digest Volvo Open promises to be terrific atmosphere and a great day out. We wish the best of luck to all who take part.”
