Golf Digest Volvo Open to return to Roe Park Resort in 2017

One of the biggest and best amateur golf tournaments on the island of Ireland will be returning to Roe Park Resort, Limavady in 2017, it has been announced.

Over 100 amateur golfers gathered in the sunshine to take part in the Golf Digest Volvo Open at the Resort on Friday 3rd June, and it has been revealed that the competition will take place again at the luxury Four Star Resort on Sunday 28th May 2017.

This was the first leg of the Open to be held in Northern Ireland this year, and the first time Roe Park Resort has hosted the tournament.  Winners of the men’s categories at this year’s event were Alan Rankin and Derek Powell, whilst Mary O’Kane finished top of the pack in the ladies competition.

Over £5000 worth of prizes, such as golf equipment and holidays, were handed out to winners of each of the playing categories, the ‘nearest the pin’ and ‘longest drive’ contests, and the evening raffle.

Winners from the competition will progress to the 2016 Golf Digest Volvo Grand Final in order to compete for the Champions Cup later in the year.

Speaking from the event, Terry Kelly, Golf & Spa Manager for Roe Park Resort, commented, “We are delighted that the amateur Open has proven to be a resounding success and will be returning next year. Not only has there been a fantastic atmosphere along the course and in the clubhouse, but the standard of the golf has been exceptional.”

Mark Traynor from Golf Digest said “Northern Ireland has always been a fantastic place to play golf and we are delighted to include great venues, such as the Roe Park Resort, as part of the tour. It is great to see so many golfers out enjoying themselves and we look forward to returning for next year’s event.”
