Roe Park on ‘Par’ for Irish Open Golf Fever

The redevelopment will provide local golfers with access to prestige greens and advanced golf technology to enhance their game.  The final stage of the investment saw the last three greens of the course being reconstructed to improve play and create a more challenging finish to the course.

The golf course redevelopment also included a multi-tier finish to surrounding bunkers and introduced additional bunkers throughout the fairways to give players a more competitive game.

Terry Kelly, Golf Manager at the Roe Park Resort said:

“The Irish Open taking place in Northern Ireland again this year and the global success of our local golfers has no doubt attracted more interest in the sport, ultimately placing more emphasis on the quality of our golf course. At the Roe Park Resort we pride ourselves on our luscious greens which are set in the scenic backdrop of the Roe Valley.

“We have worked with course specialists and combined our knowledge with input from resident golfers to make sure the course enhancements provide players with a challenging and competitive course,” added Mr Kelly.

The Roe Park Resort contracted golf course architect Marc Westenborg to renovate holes 16, 17 and 18. Marc Westenborg has over 14 years’ experience in course design with world renowned golf course architects, Hawtree.

The Roe Park Resort was named ‘Best Golf Resort in Ulster’ by the Golfers Guide to Ireland and recently introduced a state-of-the-art ‘Golf Academy.’

NITB credit excellence

The Northern Ireland Tourist Board congratulated eleven golf clubs from across Northern Ireland for their commitment to providing the best visitor experiences.

NITB’s first Golf Quality and Assurance awards were held at Malone Golf Club in Belfast, and set out to raise the bar when it came to standards at golf clubs, with a particular focus on customer service. NITB are working with Fáilte Ireland on the implementation of this quality and assurance scheme.

Alan Clarke, NITB Chief Executive addressed the audience: “The fact that some of our best clubs have signed up to this scheme is a sign of the golf industry’s commitment to providing the best visitor experience for all visitors. This scheme sets out to establish minimum standards for the golf industry so that visitors experience consistency at every step of their visit, from arrival at the carpark, the welcome and reception they receive, clubhouse facilities and services as well as standards on the golf course. This means that we will not only deliver standards of excellence to visitors, but also exceed the expectations of our visitors.”
